...began swimming at age 11 and entered competitive swimming at 16 while attending Proviso West High School in 1995. Her first summer job as a lifeguard was at Fred Hampton Pool in Maywood, Illinois, and she later received extensive water safety training in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After marriage and raising three children, Coach Alice returned to aquatics with a renewed sense of purpose. She spent three years working for one of the nation’s leading swim schools, where she expanded her knowledge and experience in swim instruction and aquatic safety. During that time, she also managed a local park district aquatics program, supervising more than 20 staff members, including lifeguards, deck attendants, and cashiers.
Driven by a passion to give back to her community, Alice recognized the growing need for stronger water safety education and access to quality swim instruction. In Spring 2022, she became a certified lifeguard instructor and founded Swim Just Because to help create lasting change.
Also in 2022, Alice became the Head Coach of the Boys and Girls Swim Team at Proviso Township High School, where she continues to lead and mentor student-athletes. During the summer, she provides lifeguard training for Scholars of Proviso Township High School and helps prepare them for employment opportunities at local pools.
